Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed his condolences in a letter to the bereaved family regarding the death of Kossuth Prize-winning graphic artist Líviusz Gyulai, the nation's artist, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary in charge of the Prime Minister's Press Office, announced on Thursday.
"Amidst our daily tasks and hectic tasks, we can rarely experience the liberating and joy-giving power of art, but Líviusz Gyulai always tried to make the little time that people look at his works be filled with serenity," wrote the prime minister.
Viktor Orbán reminded me: during Líviusz Gyulai's long career, in addition to his linocuts, etchings and pen drawings, he not only made cartoons, but also illustrated hundreds of books. Villon and Cervantes, Mihály Vitéz Csokonai and Sándor Weöres are just a few of the authors whose works he enriched with his drawings that testify to his unique sense of style.
"We are grateful that he radiated humor, playfulness and a positive worldview with his meticulously developed images, evoking different eras, addressing, thinking and making the viewing and reading public smile," said the Prime Minister in his letter of condolence.
Líviusz Gyulai died on Tuesday in the 84th year of his life.
