The minimum allowance for orphans will more than double to HUF 50,000 from the first of January, the minister without portfolio responsible for families told the public media.
Katalin Novák said: In Hungary, 55,000 orphans or semi-orphans are entitled to orphan benefits, the average amount of which is currently HUF 41,000 per month. Among those entitled, 42,000 receive less than HUF 50,000 per month, he added.
He emphasized: with this measure, the government wants to help single-parent families, "where one parent does the work instead of two" or where both parents have died and the child is raised as an orphan.
