The domestic opposition needs "strong images", and what could be more attention-grabbing than rummaging through coffins. Taking the advice of their political scientists, it seems to pay off well to get votes from the undecided through the dead of the virus epidemic. They press the mantra with full force on every possible surface, the killer Orbán's country has produced more dead people than anyone else. Although the EU data and the statistical calculation methodology completely contradict them, make no mistake, if there is hope of pocketing one or two more votes, they will not abandon their lies.
In the first 12 weeks of 2021, the rate of deaths increased by 6.6 percent compared to the 2019 figure. So far, there are relevant data from 16 EU countries, and our country ranks ninth among them. According to László Windisch, the deputy president of the KSH, this additional death data shows the effectiveness of the epidemic management more accurately than a comparison of the numbers of coronavirus deaths provided by individual countries.
"The result of epidemic management cannot be expressed or evaluated by a single indicator. At the same time, it is certain that the examination of excess mortality data paints a more accurate picture than the statistics on deaths caused by the coronavirus provided by individual countries," explained László Windisch to Magyar Nemzet .
The deputy president of the KSH emphasized that in some states the data may not be properly entered into the system. Lithuania and Slovakia, for example, accounted for only about a third of the excess deaths in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus.
"For the time being, there is no explanation from these countries for the significant excess of deaths on top of this. "Since there is no known event, such as a war or another major epidemic, which could explain such an increase in mortality, it cannot be ruled out that the actual death toll from Covid-19 in several countries may actually have been higher than the officially reported cases," László Windisch pointed out . .
In our country, 86 percent of the excess deaths in 2020 are deaths officially recognized as a consequence of the coronavirus, while the difference is much more significant in the case of most EU member states.
There are seven EU countries that do not even recognize half of the excess deaths as Covid deaths.
"It is useless for a member state to officially calculate based on the WHO methodology, if for some reason it does not put this method into practice exactly. And in many cases, this is probably the case, as there is no other explanation for the fact that the death rate increases somewhere in the same way as in the other states, but only half of the increase is recognized as a consequence of the coronavirus," underlined László Windisch .
The deputy president of the CSO drew attention to the fact that, according to the latest Eurostat analysis, compared to the average of the last four years before the virus, the Hungarian death rate was higher than the EU average only in November and December of last year.
"Even in January-February this year, the numbers in Hungary were below the EU average," said László Windisch.
The data also show that this year, in the first 12 weeks until March 28 - compared to 2019, the last epidemic-free year - the number of deaths in Hungary increased by 6.6 percent.
"So far, we have data for at least 12 weeks from 16 EU member states. Among these, we are in the middle, in ninth place," explained the specialist, who, for the sake of accuracy, also drew attention to the fact that the excess mortality indicator does not clearly show the effectiveness of the epidemic management of individual countries, but paints a more accurate picture than the data of the member states. comparison.
