The Ministry of Development has set the goal of a complete restoration of the birthplace of King Matthias in Cluj Minister of Development Attila Cseke announced at a press conference held in the treasured city on Friday The goal is to recall the memory of the just king in the renovated building and to open it for tourists.
Attila Cseke pointed out: the Mátyás house, the oldest residential building in the treasured city, is important not only for Cluj, but for the entire region, the whole of Transylvania. Therefore, at the suggestion of the RMDSZ, the ministry undertook its full-scale restoration, which will be carried out by the department from planning to execution. Since it is a listed building, the renovation will be carried out according to the strictest professional rules.
Regarding the birthplace of King Matthias in Cluj, Cluj-Napoca local historian György Gaal writes that the currently visible building was formed from the combination of two or three properties, the central, Gothic-style unit was already standing when King Matthias was born. In the 1440s, the house was owned by Jakab Méhfi, a wealthy citizen and vineyard owner. Mátyás's mother, Erzsébet Szilágyi, usually stayed with him when she visited Cluj. On February 23, 1443, his son Mátyás Hunyadi was born here.
