The Institute of Idols in Cluj-Napoca and the Integratio Foundation in Temesvár have started an informational campaign promoting and raising awareness of the use of the Hungarian language.
The organizers announced the campaign at a press conference in Cluj on Tuesday. Tibor Toró, research director of the Bálványos Institute, said: it emerged from previous research that in the case of children from mixed marriages who learn Hungarian, teachers face challenges for which they were not prepared.
Ildikó Erdei, director of the Béla Bartók High School in Temesvár, a member of the Integratio Foundation, said: one of these challenges is when the teacher of the Hungarian school is faced with the fact that parents who do not speak Hungarian come to the parents' meeting. If the teacher is not prepared for the situation, the solution is often to hold the parents' meeting in Romanian, even though the school's task is also to strengthen the social position of the Hungarian language.
At the press conference, an animated film was also presented, which suggests that the solution to this situation for the teachers is to prepare an outline of the topics of the parents' meeting in Romanian, and hand it over in writing to the Romanian parents, and to hold the meeting in Hungarian.
The Integratio Foundation has developed several programs to draw attention to the fact that children in mixed families should be raised bilingually. They also organized professional workshops and focus group discussions with the families involved in the topic, and developed their proposals after examining a number of concrete examples, which can be found on the website ketnyelvuseg.integratio.ro. For students whose mother tongue is Hungarian, but who are studying Hungarian only on an optional basis, the entire collection of educational aids has been published on the website fakultativ.integratio.ro.
