Despite the outstanding Hungarian vaccination results, one should not sit back and lose the desire to vaccinate against the coronavirus, said the rector of Semmelweis University in Kossuth Rádió's Vasárnapi Újság program.
Béla Merkely said that the waning epidemic does not mean that the pandemic is over, there are also warning signs in the descending branch of the third wave. As an example, he mentioned that roughly a hundred people die every day as a result of virus infection.
He emphasized that the population is waiting to get vaccinated as a result of the media and social media, which leads to further illnesses.
The rector of Semmelweis University therefore recommended everyone to take advantage of the opportunity and request one of the available vaccines, as they all have the same effect.
Béla Merkely repeated that after reaching five million vaccinated, the coronavirus epidemic cannot turn in the wrong direction.
The rector called it a brave and good decision that Hungary was the first in the European Union to use the vaccine from the Chinese company Sinopharm, which contributed a lot to restarting life in Hungary.
He emphasized that he was sure that it was only a matter of time before the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the effectiveness of the Sinopharm vaccine, which he believed the European and American drug agencies would soon do.
He said that almost 6,000 cases of coronavirus were treated at Semmelweis University, and once in a while they experienced that someone developed an illness requiring hospital care after two vaccines, and there was no difference between the vaccines used.
Sinopharm's vaccine is well tolerated, so it causes few vaccination reactions, and it can also be easily transported and provided for a long time, for example on vaccination buses - noted Béla Merkely, who also drew attention to the fact that from the point of view of the immunity of families and the nation, the fact that 1.2 million Sinopharm vaccines have arrived so far.
