Today, the scope of the law on protection against the coronavirus epidemic was extended . The parliament amended the relevant law with 128 yes votes and 57 no votes, the effect of which thus lasts until the 15th day after the first session of the autumn session of the Parliament.

Justice Minister Judit Varga said that this is necessary because new virus variants are spreading throughout Europe and are also present in Hungary, so increased protection is essential. The law also stated that the government can end the state of emergency even earlier.

It was predictable that the left, which serves globalist interests, would not vote for the extension of the extraordinary legal order. Tamás Harangozó (MSZP) explained this by saying that "it is not known when the unlimited power of the government will end".

The national side voted for the new civil law with 136 yes votes, which repealed the law previously criticized by the union. Last year, the European Court of Justice called this incompatible with EU law. It is interesting that the new law that replaced this received "only" 28 no votes, with 30 abstentions.

The proposal to amend the law was already submitted by the government in April. The essence of this is that from the date of the announcement, the State Audit Office prepares an annual report on every NGO with a balance sheet total of HUF 20 million. This affects approximately 4,000 NGOs and foundations. According to the new law, in addition to religious and ethnic organizations, sports associations are also exempt from this.

Even before its adoption today, 19 NGOs - including Helsinki, Amnesty, Greenpeace, Transparency - spoke out against the new law in a statement, stating that the transparency of NGOs is guaranteed even without this law by the legislation in force.
