The Society of Jesus announced the Saint Ignatius Year on the 500th anniversary of the conversion of its founder.
The series of events, which began on May 20, 2021 , will end on July 31, 2022, and also includes the 400th anniversary of the canonization of the first Jesuit and his companion, Ferenc Xavéri, which took place on March 12, 1622. The Hungarian Jesuit Order chose as its motto for the year a sentence rooted in the spirituality of St. Ignatius:
"Finding God in Everything".
Five hundred years ago, on Pentecost 1521, a Basque knight's knee was shattered by a cannonball. For the young man, who was still called Ínigo López de Loyola at the time, this tragedy was the beginning of a process that would soon change his entire life – and later the Christian world. St. Ignatius of Loyola's wound prompted him to embark on the path of conversion, develop his spiritual exercises, and then establish the Society of Jesus . The Hungarian Jesuit order prepared a number of programs and publications for the jubilee year. Among other things, there will be a board game, a musical, a community run, a life planning conference, a pilgrimage film and a pocket book.
Cardinal Péter Erdő will open the Year of St. Ignatius tomorrow with the presentation of the Mass, which will take place in the Church of the Heart of Jesus on Thursday, May 20 at 6 p.m.
