On Saturday, a demonstration against the arrival of Fudan University in Budapest began, organized by András Jámbor. Protesters against Fudan are marching in sweltering heat. There is no Covid, there are symptoms!
The former editor-in-chief of the left-liberal Mérce.hu would also seek the laurels of a member of parliament, as he announced his candidacy in the primary election organized by the opposition rainbow coalition. According to András Jámbor, "we have to finish the last 12 years and regain our future". We can also read in his statement on his social media page that for the past 12 years he has always been in the background, organizing, writing, talking, but he felt it was time to step forward and act. The left-wing journalist imagines this action as eliminating the public media. The Szikra Movement, which started it, defines itself as a system-critical, left-wing, social and green organization. Demonstrators started gathering at Andrássy út from 15:00, from where they will march to Kossuth Square at 16:00.
According to the organizers of the demonstration, "Fidesz is selling off the housing and future of Hungarian students in order to bring the elite university of the Chinese dictatorship to the country", so they want to send a message with Saturday's demonstration that they will not allow "selling off the housing and future of Hungarian students". They also indicated that all left-wing parties will participate in the movement.
Protesters against Fudan are marching in temperatures of more than 28 degrees. The demonstration is taking place in surprisingly good weather, according to Időkép, summer weather of 28 degrees is expected across the country. It is probable that partly because of this the crowd did not reach the number of 20,000 expected by András Jámbor.
