Only Christianity unites the people of Europe, said the President of the Parliament in the Hungarian Catholic Radio's public program Kerengő.
According to László Kövér, a significant part of the EU member states, but especially the institutions of the union, are under such worldview and political influence that they want to bring about the era of post-Christianity, and they strive to eliminate traditional Christian communities. Such a period without Christianity would be an era of chaos, horror, and new barbarism, he believed.
The speaker emphasized that the state should support Christian communities because they provide the foundations, principles and moral rules that maintain the normal functioning of society.
The President of the Parliament said: At the beginning, he himself thought that the disputes between Hungary and the EU had financial reasons, since after 2010 the governing parties shortchanged Western multinational companies by a few thousand billion forints, for example with the bank tax, but now it seems to him that the world is divided .
To the host's question, László Kövér answered with a firm no whether Hungary would leave the European Union. He added that his pessimistic vision of the future also includes the disintegration of the union, but the optimistic version is that the western half of Europe wakes up and realizes that the European identity can only come together from national identities, relying on Christian culture. The Speaker of the House called the European Parliament "the ugliest but most effective assassination attempt" against European democracy, because it does not express the will of the people, but acts as a rival to the nation-state parliaments.
László Kövér said about Hungarian domestic politics that in the past thirty years, if Fidesz had not existed, an alternating MSZP-SZDSZ party would have been operating. The President of the Parliament would bet on the success of Fidesz and the KDNP in the 2022 elections, but he expects a harsher, more personal, insulting and disgusting campaign than ever before.
In his view, social media will play a big role in this, the owners of which do not measure up to equal standards, and he also expects that they will be able to block government actors.
Today, the parliamentary debate is about defamation on the part of the opposition and bullying of their community - said László Kövér, adding that, despite this, there are people in Jobbik, MSZP, and even in the LMP faction who seem to be ashamed of this. In the parliamentary elections, people will have to consider what they got in the last cycle, and also whether they believe that the current opposition will not destroy everything that Hungary has achieved in a decade, he said.
The program also discussed the culture war, which, according to László Kövér, the right wing can lose if they are not able to pass on to their children the values they consider important in terms of maintaining the community. Social media is a brutal threat to normal life, he noted.
László Kövér also spoke about the fact that one of the main events of the upcoming International Eucharistic Congress will be in front of the Parliament, at which he intends to be present.
