If the pandemic does not take a new unexpected turn, Hungary will restore normal transit at its Schengen borders from June 24, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced today at the Hungarian Embassy in Bratislava.

The head of Hungarian diplomacy spoke about this at a press conference held with the presidents of the three highland parties - the Hungarian Community Party (MKP), the Bridge and the Unity - that are preparing to unite under the name of the Alliance.

"This is good because only 19 of the 36 border crossings between Hungary and Slovakia are currently operational, and if this decision is implemented, it will finally be possible to travel on all border crossing roads between the two countries," explained Péter Szijjártó. He added: the pandemic has highlighted interdependence even more, and that is why their plans include that they will soon enable people living in counties and regions bordering Hungary to get vaccinated against the coronavirus in Hungary as well.

Among other things Péter Szijjártó also mentioned: We are happy that the parties representing Hungarians in the highlands have found each other, and we support them so that this joining of forces is successful.

In response to a journalist's question, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said: common success stories are needed to solve the sensitive issues in Hungarian-Slovak relations. He added: they see the creation of new infrastructural connections as a possible success story. Many of these are in progress, and this year there will also be some that will be completed, such as the completion of the highway between Miskolc and Kassa in the third quarter.
