On June 15, 2021, the Parliament adopted with 157 votes in favor and 1 against the law on stricter action against pedophile criminals and on the amendment of certain laws in order to protect children.

"The law regulates two subjects. The first: more severe punishment for sexual acts committed against children. The second: protecting minors - those under 18 - from pornographic content that depicts sexuality for its own sake, promotes homosexuality and gender reassignment.

Contrary to the claims published in the press, the law does not contain any restrictive provisions regarding those over the age of 18. The law does not contain any provisions about who lives with whom and how, what their gender identity is, and how someone changes their birth gender as an adult. The Basic Law of Hungary enshrines the right to respect private and family life (Article VI). The provisions of the adopted law do not violate this. At the same time, Article XVI of the Basic Law article stipulates that "every child has the right to the protection and care necessary for his or her proper physical, mental and moral development." In order to protect minors, the provisions of the new law prohibit the availability of pornographic content, self-serving depictions of sexuality, and content promoting homosexuality and gender reassignment. The regulation is the cited Basic Law XVI. follows from the article

Since the new law does not limit the constitutional rights of those over 18 years of age, it fulfills the constitutional obligation to protect those under 18 years of age, which is why I ordered the promulgation of the law today, announced President János Áder in his announcement .

In the future, TV stations will only be able to recommend films and programs of this length to people over the age of eighteen , and the media council will be obliged to request the action of the member state under whose jurisdiction the media service provider that violates the rule falls.
