In order to quickly restart the Hungarian economy, the economic restart of the Visegrad partners is also necessary, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in Katowice, Silesia, where he participated as a member of the Hungarian delegation at the Prime Minister's Summit of the Visegrad Group.
The effectiveness of the Hungarian economy is basically determined by the foreign trade performance - underlined the head of Hungarian diplomacy in a statement to the Hungarian public media.
Together with the other three partners of the Visegrád Group (V4), even in last year's difficult year, which was a black year for world trade, Hungary handled more than HUF 10,000 billion in trade turnover, which is 14 percent of the total Hungarian foreign trade turnover, he pointed out.
The most important reason for the good economic performance in Central Europe is to be found in low taxes, so any attempt to exert external pressure that would lead to a tax increase in the countries of the region must be rejected - stressed Szijjártó. Therefore, one of the important efforts of the Hungarian presidency will be to prevent the need to raise taxes in the V4 countries by imposing the global minimum tax, he said.
He found that the competitive advantage of Central European countries is largely
due to low taxes. It is in our fundamental interest that tax policies remain under national competence, he said. Regarding the security aspects of the world after the coronavirus epidemic, Szijjártó said: Although Brussels puts mandatory resettlement quotas on the agenda again and again, it must be ensured that illegal immigrants cannot come to Central Europe.
It must also be ensured that the enlargement of the European Union does not fall off the agenda, so that the Western Balkan region can join as soon as possible. He underlined: the security and stability of the Western Balkans fundamentally determines the stability of the Central European region.
