Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical, Cinderella, can also be presented here. However, the play does not tell the classic story, in this version Cinderella is a big-mouthed, rebellious character, and the Prince suddenly disappears with another man.
According to information from Origo, the Madách Theater is preparing to be presented in Budapest in the fall of 2022. Andrew Lloyd Webber's new play, Cinderella, was first rehearsed in London in 2019, but the performances had to be postponed several times due to the coronavirus epidemic.
The main stage premiere of the musical was supposed to be presented last Monday after the closures, but after several crew members tested positive for the coronavirus, the performances, which are expected to start in London in August, were postponed.
However, Webber's Cinderella is not the classic fairy tale. In the play, the Prince suddenly disappears and it turns out that he is actually in love with a man. Cinderella is not the modest girl we once believed, but a big-mouthed, strong woman, a true feminist who does not need a man to be happy, the New York Post wrote about this.
In the end, she just finds love, she falls in love with her best friend, the younger brother of the Prince. It is interesting that one of the songs of the (children's) musical, which proclaims difference from classical social norms, was also performed by the London Gay Men's Chorus, a London gay men's choir, to celebrate Pride month.
Origo knows that Tamás Szirtes, the director of the Madách Theater, wants to present the LGBTQ musical to Hungarian audiences in the fall of 2022. In this regard, they contacted the theater to find out if our information was accurate.
They also inquired as to whether the Madách Theater's musical performances are also popular among elementary school students, whether they plan to set an age limit for the play Cinderella, or whether children aged 8-12 will be able to visit it as well. What is basically a musical for children, that is, if the information is accurate, the Madách Theater plans to play an LGBTQ musical for children.
As soon as director Tamás Szirtes answers Origo's questions, we will of course write it.
