More than 70% of Ukrainian employers would switch to the four-day work week, the employer portal Jooble wrote. Previously, foreign and Ukrainian companies had already introduced the shortened working week on an experimental basis, and most of them evaluated the innovation positively.

The essence of the four-day work week is that employees can devote more time to their personal affairs and rest, so that work would be more efficient on the other working days. Despite less work, salaries would not decrease.

According to market expert Szerhij Marcsenko, especially in the case of employees performing intellectual work, more efficient work can be observed despite fewer working hours.

A 2019 survey by Microsoft Japan showed that worker productivity increased by 40% when the four-day work week was introduced. Ukrainian companies also conducted similar research, which also ended with positive results.

It is important to remember that a four-day work week would not bring the same results as a five-day work week in all work areas. When working with people, such as a doctor, it would not be beneficial to see more patients in less time, as this would probably compromise the quality of the examination.

The introduction of the four-day work week largely depends on the structure of the given company and the motivation of the employees. Despite the fact that the four-day work week is becoming more and more common abroad and may be introduced in more and more countries in the future, the expert does not believe that they will switch to this system in Ukraine in the near future.

"I don't think employers would be ready for that," Marchenko said. If 71% of employers say that they are not against the innovation, it does not mean that they themselves would introduce the four-day work week if the opportunity was given. Undoubtedly, the world is moving towards a shorter working week, but I don't think that this will be the determining factor either in Ukraine or in the world in the next five years."
