He will be a Hungarian astronaut again in 2025 at the latest, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on his social media page on Friday.
Péter Szijjártó stated that the space travel will serve research purposes.
The astronaut will reach the International Space Station with American cooperation, where he can conduct experiments with Hungarian-developed equipment.
The telecommunications, Earth observation and radiation measurement equipment are created by domestic companies and universities cooperating in the space industry development program. According to the minister, the participants accumulated significant knowledge and experience, despite this, as he said, the Hungarian space industry has received undeservedly little attention until now.
According to Péter Szijjártó, it is also justified to change this because the success of the Hungarian economy requires the strengthening of industries that produce high added value, especially those that already have significant domestic activities.
The space industry can give impetus to growth, so the government wants to put its results at the service of industrial development, said the head of the ministry.
