Hungary was attacked on an unprecedented scale only because for us the protection of children and families comes first, and in light of this, we are not willing to allow the LGBTQ lobby into our schools and kindergartens. She started her post on the social media page of Minister of Justice Judit Varga, whose lines are published below.
We had many disputes with the institutions in Brussels before, but we closed them through official channels, we answered the questions correctly, dispelled the concerns and always complied with the provisions of the founding contracts.
We hit a sensitive nerve in Brussels, because we consider the protection of children more important than the LGBTQ lobby. That's why they're using everything now, they've brought up old disputes, they want to sew everything down our necks.
The Hungarian government responded to the baseless accusations and the Commission's latest report on the rule of law in a newly issued decision.
Let's look at the facts:
This time, the sources of the report are also one-sided and politically biased, reflecting a double standard towards Hungary, which is why its factual findings are inaccurate.
Hungary's independent constitutional bodies are expected to make decisions that the Commission deems desirable in some specific cases, regardless of both the facts and the regulations. This is an abuse of power on the part of the European Commission.
The independence, organization and administration of the Hungarian judiciary have been examined by international forums. Based on these, it can be concluded that the Hungarian constitutional framework is in line with European standards and provides broader institutional guarantees compared to the regulations of many EU member states.
We reject unfounded and politically motivated concerns about anti-corruption action in Hungary, because Hungary has an outstanding, detailed anti-corruption strategy, an effective whistleblower protection system and strict criminal law rules, even in European comparison.
Contrary to the Commission's assessment, real pluralism prevails in the media in Hungary: in contrast to the Western European media environment, which is largely dominated by left-wing and liberal media channels, Hungarian conditions are more balanced, as all political views and trends can reach the public.
In the face of unfounded concerns, the diversity of civil society in Hungary is demonstrated by the approximately sixty thousand freely established and operating civil organizations.
The European Commission's 2021 report on the rule of law is therefore once again a tool for political pressure, which does not provide an objective and well-founded picture of the rule of law situation in Hungary or in other member states of the European Union, so this report cannot form the basis of further EU mechanisms or procedures.
We condemn the Commission's attempts to interfere in the activities of Hungary's independent constitutional bodies, and - as Hungary's representative in the European Union - we reject the pressure exerted by the European Commission regarding the assessment of certain specific cases on behalf of all relevant bodies.
Therefore, in the form of a letter, I will present the Hungarian government's position regarding the political attack on our country to the European institutions and member states in several languages.
Let common sense prevail!
