The danger of forced assimilation hangs over the heads of Transylvanian Hungarians like the sword of Damocles, and we should prepare for street demonstrations to avert the danger, said Balázs Izsák, president of the Székely National Council, in response to PNL president Ludovic Orban's statement.
On Sunday, at the Hargita county PNL delegate meeting, Orban spoke about the fact that the ethnic composition of the region can be significantly changed by exploiting the development potential of Hargita county. According to Izsák, "anyone who tries to discredit this statement by writing the statement of the party chairman at the expense of the election campaign is making a big mistake, since he is warning us of a danger that is a real, imminent danger, and is not alien to his rivals within the party, but even nor from the Social Democratic Party, which is opposed to them."
"There is no difference between the regional development plans of the National Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party regarding Székelyföld. The former is more outspoken, it has no regard for the appearance of compliance with international law, nor for Romania's commitments, on the other hand, the Liviu Dragneas tried to cunningly hide the same behavior.
In such circumstances, the affected community should not be appeased and lulled to sleep, but warned of the danger and asked: are we prepared for street demonstrations?
Are we prepared for civil disobedience? After all, a danger, the sword of Damocles, hovers over us, which did not strike us during the Romanian royal dictatorship, Antonescu's dictatorship, or the communist dictatorship," writes Izsák.
According to him, the European Union does not fully guarantee the prevention of forced assimilation; "everyone is needed in a national resistance, let's be ready," he said.
"In our opinion, Székelyföld needs development and investment. However, their plans should not be removed from the competence of the local and county governments, and they should be given the opportunity to develop the infrastructure of the depopulated Székely villages so that those who were forcibly displaced from there could return home.
The European citizens' initiative of the Székely National Council is about this. The economic backwardness of national regions must be prevented, and the conditions for economic, social and territorial cohesion must be maintained in such a way that their characteristics do not change. The Székely National Council made this initiative a success with the active support of around one and a half million EU citizens. This is the peaceful, constructive approach. This is our approach. Romania's series of losses at the European Court of Justice is a message to Ludovic Orban, Liviu Dragnea and the entire Romanian political elite: they are on the wrong path!" - concludes the statement of the president of the SZNT.
