In response to public complaints, Budapest's police chief ordered an increased number of policemen to patrol Örs vezér Square day and night.

In recent days, several press reports have appeared about a gang insulting people passing through Örs vezér square.

The police take action immediately if they experience a violation of the law, and anyone can go to them at any time to ask for help, the Budapest Police Headquarters told MTI on Thursday.

They are screaming, drinking, apparently drugged

Several readers wrote to Metropol about the matter. According to one of them, the mentioned gang, "with a changing composition, has been poisoning the everyday lives of passers-by for at least two years".

– They scream, drink, are often visibly drugged, and the BKK does not provide any substantive answers to our inquiries in this regard. Since then, they have been at the entrance almost every day, shouting, threatening and barking. More than once, they sleep on the subway during the day, in an altered state of consciousness, wrote one of the newspaper's readers.

Another letter writer reported a 2019 incident in which a drugged man attacked and severely beat a randomly selected passerby on his way home from work.

"Also in the summer of 2019, an old man was attacked at the entrance to the subway and beaten in a frenzy, as a result of which his ear began to bleed, " he wrote.

Another reader reported that on Saturday at the HÉV stop, "a guy spoke to an old lady in such a violent, threatening manner that he even pulled her arm that I was afraid he was going to abuse her." However, according to his report, they finally started to count some money and then disappeared - according to the letter writer, the aunt might also be homeless.

And Tímea wrote to the newspaper that the ticket machine cannot be used, it usually does not return money because it is stuffed with some small paper, "it is impossible to take out the wallet, because they jump on you like locusts".
