Hungary is making massive investments in Transylvania, thereby "bringing under its de facto control" a significant part of the country, while the Romanian state passively observes all this, said the co-chairman of the Association for the Unification of Romanians (AUR), which is Transylvania, at a press conference in Marosvásárhely on Saturday . The portal reported today .
Claudiu Târziu said that the RMDSZ is proving step by step that it does not respect the state, in whose top leadership it is represented, nor the constitution, nor the Romanian majority, "which, in addition to being tolerant, is treated with great affection by other people living in the country towards nationalities". He believes that Romania treats national minorities in an exemplary manner, but this "goodness" should not appear as "stupidity or weakness", and for this purpose, a more decisive action should be taken both at the level of foreign and domestic politics.
"Hungary can afford to make massive investments in Transylvania, thus bringing a significant part of our country under its de facto control, because it is left to it. Because the country's leadership doesn't have a clear idea about this, we don't have public policies," he said.
The co-president of the AUR added that there is a lack of public policies regarding Romanians living abroad, who are not dealt with at all by the Romanian state, "leaving them to their own devices". Romania could learn from Hungary in terms of caring for compatriots living across the border , but at the same time, he believes, it should also pay more attention to respecting the rights and freedoms of the Romanians, who are a numerical minority in the middle of the country, "because they are treated worse than in a foreign country".
AUR representative Dan Tănasă pointed out in connection with the topic that Hungary - with Bucharest's tacit consent - "behaves as a co-sovereign state in Transylvania", and believes that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ludovic Orban, is "out of touch with reality" regarding this issue.
"Hungary is literally buying Transylvania, one piece after another, one forest after another, one building after another. And he doesn't just buy, he comes and builds institutions from scratch, on which he then hangs the Hungarian flag and displays signs exclusively in Hungarian. (…) We already know that Bucharest did not contribute to the implementation of the ongoing programs in Hungary (…), but the reactions in Bucharest were always anemic," he emphasized.
