Although summer is still going on, the start of the 2021/2022 school year is getting closer, the time to start school, buy school supplies, and prepare for school. Origo has prepared a compilation of subsidies for starting school and their forms.
According to official statistical data, starting school for a school child under the age of 19 costs an average of almost HUF 26,000, a significant part of which is spent by the parents on the purchase of school supplies. However, the Internet and other costs related to digitization (in addition, in the case of high school students or those just starting their university studies, possible apartment rents, travel costs) can represent additional expenses for families. A survey last year showed that in an average family, in the case of two children who are required to go to school, schooling can cost the family coffers up to HUF 80,000. This represents a significant financial challenge for many parents. It can be a relief to know that needy families can draw on a number of sources and apply for school-starting support from several places. Financial assistance can be requested from the state, municipalities and the employee under different conditions and amounts.
The state provides free textbooks to all students in public education and vocational training , and in addition to paper-based books, all state publications can be downloaded for free in digital form.
This year's publication of the Ministry of Human Resources provides detailed information on the assistance available from the state ("Information on benefits for children"). In this form of family support, schooling support is named within the subcategory of family allowance.
According to the main rule , this can be paid for children who are in compulsory education and children who are no longer compulsory in education, but are studying in a public education (secondary education) institution. The range of eligible persons includes the biological or adoptive parent, the spouse/partner living with the parent, the person who wishes to adopt a child and the procedure for this is already underway, as well as a foster parent, guardian, children's home, correctional institution, punishment -executive and the head of the social institution. It is important to note that the state also provides this assistance to those entitled during the period of suspension of the studentship during compulsory schooling. The value of the family allowance - and thus the schooling allowance - varies depending on the number of children and other factors. In the case of a family with children, this is HUF 12,200, but if a single parent is raising a child, the amount is HUF 13,700. The other amounts are detailed in the publication.
