After the left-wing lawyer Tamás Lattmann stated in ATV that the incompetent Gergely and his accomplices cannot compete in the athletics WC, today the Hungarian Athletics Association also made a statement on the matter.

Only member organizations of the International Athletics Federation can submit applications for organizing the World Athletics Championships. Accordingly, the right to organize the 2023 World Athletics Championships was applied for and won by the Hungarian Athletics Federation with the support of the Hungarian government. The Government of Hungary guaranteed the settlement costs.

Since the Budapest Metropolitan Municipality does not participate in the arrangement, it has no task or issue, so of course it is not a contracting party. The Budapest Metropolitan Municipality, the Metropolitan Assembly, has no jurisdiction over the organization of the World Cup," the announcement states.

Questions about the arrangement arose after Mayor Gergely Karácsony announced last Thursday that he would recommend that the Capital Assembly withdraw its consent to the arrangement. At the time, the city manager said that the consent of the capital was necessary for the arrangement, however, according to MASZ's point of view, this is not the case.

In its announcement, the association listed the advantages of the World Cup at length, among other things, mentioning that Budapest can benefit a lot from the ten-day competition.
"Budapest is one of the main beneficiaries of the World Cup, since more than 150,000 guest nights will be spent in the hotels by the participants and fans coming to the competition, the restaurants, shops, nightclubs will be full, and the name of the capital of Hungary will be in the press all over the world for 10 days , while Budapest has no obligations or costs related to the World Cup," wrote MASZ, adding that the news of the World Cup will reach more than one billion people, which "represents a tourism campaign of an unprecedented and unaffordable size", and its independent auditors according to the analysis, the financial balance of the settlement will be positive for Hungary.

MASZ believes that the Hungarian capital provides an excellent environment for major world competitions, thanks to its size, its hospitable population, its vibrant cultural, business and sports life, as well as the experience and knowledge of the domestic event organizing profession, and this is what the association is building on.

The competition will take place in the National Athletic Center, which is already being prepared, and
in addition to the Hungarian government, MASZ will cooperate with several Budapest hotels, bus companies, event organizers and everyone who can contribute to the success of the world championships, says the announcement, at the end of which MASZ asked the politicians , to "act responsibly in the matter of the World Athletics Championships, support its organization!"
