Official crime data published by the Düsseldorf Ministry of the Interior revealed that nearly half of the registered gang rapes in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia are committed by foreigners and migrants, who make up about 14.8 percent of the population.
After the Alternative for Germany (AfD) parliamentary group called for the statistics to be made public, it was revealed that 45.76 percent of gang rapes within the federal state were committed by non-native foreigners.
Of the 236 suspects named in gang rape cases, 108 were non-German, Summit News reported.
In 2020, the authorities registered a total of 115 gang rapes in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the numbers have risen slightly so far this year, according to data from the Düsseldorf Ministry of the Interior, 66 gang rapes were registered in the first half of the year, RMX News reported.
142 suspects took part in these 66 gang rapes, 55 of whom do not have German passports (38.73 percent). Of the 55 gang rape suspects who do not have German passports, 15 belong to the group defined as immigrants.
According to the statistics of the official Federal Criminal Office (BKA), the picture is similar nationwide: about half of those suspected of sexual violence are foreigners, despite the fact that they make up only 13.7 percent of the population.
