We must never give up on the Hungarian scattered regions - declared János Árpád Potápi, the State Secretary responsible for national policy at the Prime Minister's Office in Pográny in the highlands, where he gave a ceremonial speech at the ceremonial handover of the Pográny landscape house, completed with the support of the State Secretariat for National Policy.
In his celebratory speech, the state secretary talked about the Hungarian government's work on national unity and its community-strengthening effects, pointing out that there is probably no settlement inhabited by Hungarians in the Highlands that would not benefit from the Hungarian government's support in some way. Pointing to the fact that Pográny is already considered a scattered region from the point of view of Hungarians, he emphasized: the scattered region should never be abandoned, because its abandonment could be followed by the abandonment of the block-Hungarian regions.
Speaking about Zoboral, János Árpád Potápi pointed out: in terms of ethnography, it is an outstanding region where the community does a lot to preserve its traditions. He added: he is confident that the recently handed over landscape house will also be an incentive for the Hungarians of the surrounding settlements to live, preserve and pass on their culture to the next generations. About half of Pográny is inhabited by Hungarians and is located in the central part of the Hungarian-speaking island of Zoboralja, one of the oldest settlements in Zoboralja.
There was a country house in Pográny before, but it was left without a building years ago. This deficiency has now been remedied, in such a way that the largest Hungarian cultural and public organization in the highlands, Csemadok, with the help of the State Secretariat for National Policy of the Prime Minister, bought another property in which, in addition to the country house, they also created a space for a permanent exhibition, a lecture hall, an office and a workshop suitable for children's and handicrafts. The State Secretariat provided approximately HUF 30 million in support for the purchase, renovation and equipment acquisition of the property.
János Árpád Potápi handed over another renovated institution in the Felvidék, the Zselízi Hungarian House, which was also renovated with the support of his state secretariat. The Hungarian government provided nearly 18 million subsidies for the renovation of the building owned by Csemadok. 12 organizations with hundreds of members are active in the institution, which functions as the center of the local Hungarian community.
