No matter how hard the presenter tried, the left-wing prime ministerial candidates did not argue with each other. It is typical that the words agreement and tax increase were spoken the most. Regarding the latter, Karácsony announced: it is not possible for Hungary to have the lowest corporate tax. It can be safely stated that after the first "debate" it was already clear who would win the opposition primary: Gyurcsány, writes analyst Dániel Deák in his Facebook post.

The first debate of the left-wing primaries has begun, we took a look at Mandiner's summary:

The candidates present themselves: language skills, ability to govern, Miskolc roots

In his introductory biography, Karácsony mentions his controversial, illegal university employment according to the Office of Education. However, he left out that he was Gyurcsány's advisor for years.

In his introduction, Fekete-Győr criticizes the political elite of the past thirty years. This is strange because now he is running in the election in alliance with them.

Dobrev touts her language skills and ability to govern in her biography, but does not mention her husband's government background.

Péter Jakab calls himself the voice of the Hungarian countryside and emphasizes his roots in Miskolc. So far, however, he has lost all the parliamentary elections of his life in his hometown.

These would be the first three steps of the opposition candidates

Jakab started with the main agenda item of the DK, the rewriting of the constitution. He claims that he himself would decide on the leaders of independent institutions, Dobrev also spoke about this the other day on the Inforádió program. more about this here . He criticizes the state of the healthcare sector, which he believes is on the verge of collapse, this point was also brought up in the already mentioned interview of Dobrev.

According to Péter Márki-Zay, Fidesz has accepted terrorists, but does not name them. He speaks out against corruption.

Gergely Karácsony is very happy that his future allies have come. The mayor wants to call for EU aid. If he becomes prime minister, he will instruct the tax office to freeze the bank accounts of those who have enriched themselves with public money. According to him, the public law invalidity of the Basic Law should be declared. The Dobrevs have been saying this for weeks.

According to Fekete-Győr, the new administration will start with governance

András Fekete-Győr calls himself the Prime Minister candidate of the new political generation. He would move the anti-corruption prosecutor's office to the Carmelite Monastery and allow independent journalists into the parliament (ed.: he does not mention why he used to go into newsrooms to threaten ). By the way, according to Fekete-Győr, the new administration will start with governance.

The president of Momentum would repeal the child protection law immediately.

Dobrev hints at the beginning of her speech that there will be no heated debate

According to him, it was comforting to listen to the others, because he agreed with them on a lot of things. He emphasizes that he has seen governance before. This is true, as her husband, Ferenc Gyurcsány, was Prime Minister of Hungary for many years. Dobrev also makes the 99 percent of Christmas slogan her own. He emphasizes: "I agree with Gerg".

"We must prioritize talented companies after the change of government," says András Fekete-Győr. According to him, competitive companies should be supported. No one asks about the enrichment of the network of companies linked to Katalin Cseh from So the show continues without any meaningful discussion.

Dobrev: The Basic Law is unconstitutional

There is still no dispute between the candidates, Dobrev even said that "the Basic Law is unconstitutional", and there is agreement between them.

Dobrev wants to be "tricky" in the campaign. It is worth remembering that her husband talked about hundreds of tricks in connection with the 2006 election campaign in his speech in Öszöd.

Commercial break, the first block did not bring any surprises, Gyurcsány's long-pronounced radical, constitutional-destroying program seems to be taking effect in the ATV studio. Although Karácsony has so far expressed caution regarding the issue of the Basic Law and the rule of law, during the debate he also backed DK and Dobrev : according to him, the Basic Law should be declared invalid under public law. On the other hand, he did not list any constitutional arguments on what grounds the Basic Law would be invalid.

The consensus of the prime ministerial candidates continues

Many iconic figures of the Gyurcsány era appeared in the audience. Simon cites a study by the Left Balance Institute. He did not talk about the reduction in poverty that occurred in the last decade, which was also confirmed by Eurostat. According to the February data, the proportion of people living in financial deprivation in our country has decreased drastically. You can read more about this here .

Dobrev talks about well-functioning health care, education, and how "daddy gets fried meat." Today, Hungary is a family where, according to him, there is an unemployed person.

Jakab would let men retire after 40, but his party did not vote for women's pension after 40 either.

The Jobbik chairman also comes up with a very original proposal: "more money should be given to the Hungarian people". Remember, in 2002, the MSZP also campaigned with this slogan.

This is how the candidates would raise taxes

According to Márki-Zay, there can be no mention of raising taxes in order to win the election in the campaign, which rhymes with Dobrev's "tricky" idea. announced months ago that he would bring back the multi-rate tax, which analyzes would result in a significant tax increase for the middle class as well. It would also increase the corporate tax on businesses and introduce several new types of taxes, such as the green tax and wealth tax. In the debate on Sunday, Karácsony said: it is not right that Hungary has the lowest corporate tax in Europe.

Fekete-Győr would catch up with Europe with a four-day work week.

According to Dobrev, Austrian children can swim, while Hungarian children cannot. He criticizes the concentration on elite gymnasiums. Karácsony's child started the academic year in such a paid private school .

Péter Jakab would not discriminate between people based on ethnicity.

Márki-Zay tried to argue about the taxes, but Simon immediately waved him off.

By the way, Márki-Zay spoke at an earlier point in the debate about how he did not want tax increases to be discussed in the campaign, while Karácsony had already announced an increase in personal and corporate taxes. By the way, this sentence of Márki-Zay echoes the mayor's previous statement about accepting migrants. told Zeit : although the rights of immigrants are considered important by all six opposition parties, they prefer not to campaign because they would not be popular.

Karácsony refers to the billionaire Gábor Bojár as an argument in favor of tax increases

The mayor claims that he spoke with the billionaire Gábor Bojár, who would like to pay more taxes. According to Karácsony, Bojár acquired his wealth honestly, but Bojár's businesses started with corruption in the 1980s, he admitted this himself in an interview with HVG : "after all these years, I can admit that after our first order - which was still here in 1982, and we supplied software for designing the pipe systems of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant - we had to return ten percent."
