On September 26, Berliners elected not only a new Bundestag, but also a new House of Representatives and new district parliaments. And the elections were chaotic. Not only did we have to wait for hours, but now more and more details are coming to light about events that we would rather expect from a third world country.
For example, the media reports that the turnout in one constituency was 150 percent , and there are "estimates" of the election results.
Journalists from public broadcaster RBB examined the election results and found "an unusually high number of invalid votes" in at least 99 constituencies , indicating "systemic problems in the elections". It appears that in some precincts ballots from other precincts were used , which is illegal and invalidates the vote cast, even if the will of the voter is clear. "If an unofficial ballot is used, the vote is invalid," Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district election official Rolfdieter Bohm
From the point of view of democratic politics, it is extremely questionable that the state election commissioner knew about the problems already in August. "We did a spot check there (in August, note) and noticed that not all ballots were properly sorted as indicated in the boxes, " Bohm said. In addition, not all election officials could be trained - supposedly because of the Corona crisis.
In addition, there are other peculiarities and anomalies. The Berlin district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, for example, did not report preliminary election results, but rather preliminary estimates. Even four days after the election, there were no results from some constituencies in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, only estimates.
