"Immigration is a fake problem," declared Ferenc Gyurcsány in 2015. The opinion of the left has not changed since then, according to them, immigration is still not a problem. According to Gergely Karácsony, ensuring the rights of asylum seekers is a direct moral obligation.
It is clear from the statements of the left wing led by Gyurcsány that if they were to come to power, they would allow migrants into Hungary. All of this is an important question because more and more illegal migrants are arriving at Hungary's border, and due to the Afghan crisis, several million immigrants may leave for Europe in the next year or two.
"Let me be honest: we can't win an election with this!"
Ensuring the human rights of asylum seekers is our moral duty and part of our program, but we will not print it on our election posters". Gergely Karácsony , left-wing candidate for prime minister, spoke about this in an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit in August . (Another honest speech about how they want to hide the reality, real Gyurcsány school! ed.)
With this, Karácsony admitted that the left-wing alliance, if it came to power, would immediately allow migrants into the country. However, this is not surprising, since the left has expressed its support for migrants countless times since the beginning of the migrant crisis in 2015.
"The government relies on the worst instincts when it wants to build a fence on the border". This is what Ferenc Gyurcsány said about the border closure in the summer of 2015.
Although it was already obvious at the time that Hungary was threatened by a huge wave of migration, the Gyurcsánys tried to deny it.
Not long ago, he called the physical border lock a "government rubber bone". The leader of the DK did not elaborate, and in July 2015 he stated to ATV that "building a spectacular and mood-shaping fence, but this will not solve anything", and also stated that "Hungary would benefit especially if it accepted immigrants".
Even then, Gergely Karácsony and his party stood by Gyurcsány and suggested that "under no circumstances should a border fence be built". And in the fall of 2015, they called on the government to "immediately stop building the fence." Even in 2018, Gergely Karácsony said that if it were up to him, he wouldn't have built this "crazy fence".
Gyurcsány was more cautious in 2018. Then at an event he said that the fence is for people
"a very powerful symbol". In people's minds, it has become a symbol of safety, and it must be reckoned with. (…)
That is why to say today that the fence must be torn down would be political suicide. And I don't want to commit suicide. The already existing fence can be used instead, as a means of controlled entry, if there is a humane system behind it."
In other words, he admitted that since the majority of Hungarians think the fence is necessary, it cannot be torn down, but they want to make it pointless.
Gyurcsány and Karácsony therefore clearly represent a clear position: according to them, migrants should be allowed into the country. Moreover, Karácsony even said that although they do not talk about this in the campaign, if they win, they will open the country's borders to immigrants.
