On Saturday, the second of October, the united Hungarian party, the Alliance, held its founding congress in Somorja. At the same time, the predecessor parties - Most-Híd, MKP and Zéfgefags - ceased to exist. At the marathon-long meeting, the delegates elected Krisztián Forró as president of the new party, Mózes Szabolcs as vice president, and László Sólymos as head of the National Council.
At the press conference following the congress, the three leaders of the party evaluated the election process in the presence of the members of the presidency. Krisztián Forró, the president of the Association, emphasized the importance of the moment in his evaluation speech, and focused primarily on patience. Which, in addition to party organization, will be greatly needed in the future. He also asked for patience from the Hungarian community in the highlands, because they need to be strengthened.
In addition, he emphasized the need for trust, both within the party and in the direction of Slovak political actors. In his opinion, you need to find partners to be successful.
László Sólymos thanked the media in the highlands for their patience, although he admitted that the journey was long, but the important thing in terms of the result is that the joint party was formed. He also assessed the current moment as a new beginning. He admitted that they were formed at the cost of compromises and time will prove that these agreements may be strong enough to keep this party alliance. He emphasized that, according to his conviction, serious results can be achieved for the national community living here. After all, the region needs this alliance.
Mózes Szabolcs formulated this day as the day of a fresh start. However, he also pointed out that the Association will only be successful if it is not only about unity, but the emphasis is placed on filling it with content. In relation to the goals, it is important to develop and implement an effective, ambitious program, which, in his opinion, should be developed in social debates.
Regarding the operation of the Association, it chose the path of politicization in the platforms, which raises many questions regarding the long-term operation. But Krisztián Forró also spoke about how they want to address voters with a unified political message. Getting into parliament is a tool for successful representation of interests, not the goal of the party.
In a letter, János Árpád Potápi, the State Secretary responsible for national policy at the Prime Minister's Office, congratulated Krisztián Forró, the president of the Alliance, who was elected on Saturday, on the establishment of the new Hungarian party in the highlands, the Alliance. The State Secretary highlighted:
"For Hungarians, this is a decisive moment, since after more than a decade of division, the Hungarian community in the highlands can become unified again." The state secretary expressed his best wishes to Krisztián Forró, the elected president of the Association, emphasizing: "This position carries with it an even greater responsibility than before, since the protection and strengthening of the cooperation model in the highlands that is now being built is more important than anything else."
The State Secretary said:
"Let the Association be the force that can display the political diversity of Hungarians in the highlands, while preserving the unity of action." In his letter, János Árpád Potápi emphasized:
"Hungary is committed to providing all possible support for the survival and prosperity of Hungarians living abroad".
