However, Péter Márki-Zay does not back down in favor of Gergely Karácsony in the second round of the left-wing primaries, so they will run separately against Klára Dobrev.
"I told Péter Márki-Zay on Friday, I told Péter Márki-Zay on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening: I am calling allies for the program of the reunification of Hungary, for the social and green turn"
Gergely Karácsony wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday night.
"Technical power bargaining and contradictory opinion polls do not matter when Hungary's future is at stake. Although I never asked, Péter Márki-Zay has been saying for months that he will step back in my favor in the second round of the primary election.
However, at the last moment before the election, he came to the exact opposite. Of course, I respect your decision.
As a result, we will run separately in the second round, but we are both committed to preserving and strengthening the unity of the opposition," the mayor wrote.
Gergely Karácsony, the Prime Minister candidate of the Párbeszéd-MSZP-LMP, made a press statement on Wednesday afternoon that he will not back down, and that only an alliance with Péter Márki-Zay can be discussed, in which the latter backs down in his favor.
Márki-Zay indicated that he considers himself to be the most likely, but he will consult with Gergelly Karácsony in the evening. This consultation finally ended with the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely not backing down in favor of the mayor of Budapest, while Klára Dobrev is traveling the country campaigning for the second round of the primary election.
