How can we best convey the good news of Christ to the world in which we live? - this is the question the world church is looking for an answer to during the synodal process. On October 17, Cardinal Péter Erdő, Primate of the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest, announced the beginning of the process that will culminate in the 2023 Vatican Synod of Bishops in the St. Stephen's Basilica. The synod is actually an assembly of bishops from different regions of the world, which holds meetings at a time determined by the pope.
On Sunday, October 17, the process which, according to Pope Francis' intention, will go around the entire world church also began in the Hungarian dioceses. Cardinal Péter Erdő, Primate, announced the start of the process that will last until 2023 in Budapest, in the St. Stephen's Basilica.
In his welcoming words, Péter Erdő said: "When St. XXIII. In an unforgettable speech in January 1959, Pope John told the faithful that he wanted to convene a diocesan council for the Diocese of Rome, hold a universal council for the entire world church, and reform the Church Code. Peter square. The Pope asked the faithful to caress their children when they go home, because something great and new is about to begin. Even if we are not at the beginning of such a big event today, a process is beginning in our dioceses that is called to travel throughout the world church."
Pope Francis has announced a synod of bishops for 2023, which must be prepared in a communal way in the dioceses before that, and then the results must be summarized on a national and continental level.
Jesus wants and organizes the Church not only as invisible and spiritual, but also as a community living in this world, which also has leaders.
He is not saying that none of you should be first. Rather, he says that whoever wants to be first must be the servant of the others.
He does not say that there is no leadership, there is no superiority in his community, in his country, but he shows what he means by this superiority by the example of his own person. He shows that he gives his life as a ransom for many. This was the basis of what a leader and leadership should be like in the Church community.
So, Jesus is not the initiator of some kind of movement without leadership or without a visible organization, but he does organize a visible people and country from the Church here in history.
When, at the request of the Holy Father, we open the preparations for the episcopal synod scheduled for 2023 in all dioceses of the world, we undertake to think together at the parish and diocesan level about the fulfillment of the mission of our Church.
However, as we heard in today's Gospel, the focus is not on the Church's organization and way of functioning, but on the mission.
How can we best convey the good news of Christ to the world in which we live. We are looking for the answer to this, knowing that every baptized person has received the gift of the Holy Spirit. This gift is confirmed by confirmation, and the sanctity of the ecclesiastical order expands it not only in degree, but also essentially. Therefore, everyone contributes in their own mission to the fulfillment of the common task of our Church. And this requires sacrifice on the part of all of us, a personal relationship of love with Christ, who is the content and resource of our mission.
