At today's plenary session of the European Parliament, Poland was once again in the crossfire of political attacks: the deputies debated the decision of the Polish Constitutional Court with the participation of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. Speaking on behalf of Fidesz's European representative group, Tamás Deutsch, the leader of the representative group, and László Trócsányi, EP representative, expressed their solidarity and assured Poland of their supportive position, the European Parliament delegation of Fidesz informed in a statement on Tuesday.
Tamás Deutsch, the leader of the representative group, emphasized in his speech: Poles and Hungarians cannot be educated about European values and the rule of law. He reminded me: the sphere of influence written on paper slips by the representatives of the Western European power elite threw us to the Soviet empire with percentages!
He said: we Hungarians and Poles "fought for freedom, democracy and our national independence against the dictatorship of Jaruzelski and Kádár". He drew attention: "The fourth wave of the epidemic is coming in Europe, we are once again exposed to unprecedented immigration pressure, an energy crisis has developed in many places, and you have come to harass Hungarians and Poles, repeating obvious lies and outrageous slanders, in a prejudiced and hateful tone." The head of the delegation emphasized: We won our freedom and national independence on our own, so we will defend it against you too!
László Trócsányi, Fidesz EP representative, former constitutional judge and justice minister highlighted that we are witnessing a dialogue of supremacy between European and member state institutions. However, he stressed: real dialogue can only take place between equal parties.
He added: “EU law has application priority, but it does not have absolute priority. The European treaties do not provide for this either". It shows that it is a real problem, because many national constitutional courts have already determined the limits of the priority application of EU law. The Polish Constitutional Court also did this recently.
Since it is a legal dispute, I do not think it is right that there is a political debate on the issue at the same time. If the national constitutional institutions received more respect from the European institutions instead of threats, then the controversial issues could be decided not by force, but by common sense - the representative concluded his speech.
