This is also an important moment to strengthen our own cultural identity - said Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás at the ceremonial opening of the Eiffel Workshop of the Hungarian State Opera on Monday evening in Budapest.
He highlighted: the Eiffel Workshop is one of the biggest cultural developments of the decade in the capital and in the country. The investment of more than HUF 33 billion, with which a total of 33,000 built-up square meters of the workshop building and its three-hectare park were renewed, is the first important step, he emphasized, adding that the Transport Museum and a high-level light music training center will soon join it.
The Eiffel Workshop opens up a great opportunity for opera performances, it can level up and rise even higher in the international arena, he pointed out. As he said, the significance of the current cultural-historical event lies in the fact that by handing over the Eiffel Workshop, we are not only paying tribute to the more than 200-year-old Hungarian opera culture and Hungarian artists, but it is also an important moment to strengthen our own cultural identity.
In ten years, many things have changed in Hungary, and Hungarian culture has also strengthened - he emphasized, adding: in ten years, the amount of spending on culture increased from HUF 51 billion to HUF 550 billion, and support for cultural activities and services increased from HUF 74 billion to HUF 567 billion.
The minister reminded: in the past decade, emblematic buildings have been renovated in the capital, including the Parliament, Széll Kálmán tér, the Kúria building, the Erkel Theater, the Pesti Vigadó, the Music Academy and the Buda Vigadó, and the reconstruction of the Budavári Palace is ongoing .
The words of László Baán, Ministerial Commissioner responsible for Opera's investments, were interpreted by Benedek Gyorgyevics, CEO of Városliget Zrt. As he said, let's keep the age of the country builders, let's have dreams and plans for the future, let's create a place where, after many, many years, the next generations will feel good, seeing their own history.
Let's preserve and create, let's remain the ones we deserve to be, constructive Hungarians, he added.
