The Democratic Coalition also took the lead in Budapest among voters who support the opposition coalition, according to Századvég's October poll. The survey also covered how the people of Budapest feel about the person of Gergely Karácsony and his activities as mayor.
According to the evidence of the research data, in the last year and a half, in terms of party preferences, a significant reorganization took place among the voters in Budapest who sympathized with the opposition coalition. 30 percent of the opposition in Budapest would vote for Ferenc Gyurcsány's party, while in February 2020 only 21 percent would have supported the DK.
While - similar to national trends - the Democratic Coalition became the most popular party among opposition-oriented voters in Budapest, Gergely Karácsony's support base dwindled significantly. The majority of respondents in the capital (54 percent) have an unfavorable opinion of the Párbeszéd politician, while 44 percent of them had a positive opinion of the person of the mayor.
Despite the fact that Budapest - in terms of electoral power - is traditionally considered a more favorable settlement for the left, currently 58 percent of the capital's residents believe that Gergely Karácsony has disappointed the people in the recent period.
In light of this, it is not surprising that the majority (52 percent) of those surveyed in the capital would like to see someone else, a new candidate, at the head of Budapest, but at the same time, 38 percent still support Karácsony's mayorship.
The survey shows that half of Budapest residents (50 percent) are of the opinion that things in the capital went better during the mayorship of István Tarlós, while the proportion of those who consider Karácsony's work as city manager to be more effective is 40 percent.
