After the moral destruction of the shameful referendum on December 5, 2004, thanks to the commitment of the current government, a serious change of attitude took place regarding the perception of Hungarians across the border. - said István Simicskó, member of parliament (Fidesz-KDNP) to MTI.
We, the people living in the motherland, have a moral duty to embrace the Hungarians living in the diaspora and the diaspora in every way, to help them prosper - wherever they live in the world. Since 2010, the Fidesz-KDNP governments have done everything in order to overcome the trauma of Trianon and build friendly and comradely relations with those countries which, as a result of the storms of history, host a large number of our Hungarian compatriots. Székely is a historical community whose specific traditions have enriched our culture for many centuries. We especially hold our Székely brothers in our hearts, so we support their demand for autonomy, which is the aspiration of a minority that wants to prosper in its homeland and is proud of its identity.
It is important that they can preserve their language, traditions and customs in the cultural field as well. Autonomy is a right in the European Union that also belongs to the people of Székely, and it is natural to demand or fight for it. God bless the people of Székely in this struggle, on the day of Székely autonomy! Let the fires and candlesticks lit all over the Carpathian basin remind us of our togetherness.
This year, instead of guard fires, candles can be lit in most places for the autonomy of Székelyföld. Like last year, this year, the independence day of Székelyföld will be commemorated without crowds on October 31: where it will not be possible to light a common bonfire, residents can show the importance of belonging together by placing candles in the windows of their homes.
