The 2022 budget of the European Union was approved

The European Parliament approved the European Union's 2022 EU budget at its plenary session in Strasbourg, which sets total commitments at EUR 169,515.8 million and payments at EUR 170,603.3 million, the EU Parliament announced on Wednesday.

In a statement sent to MTI by the Fidesz European Parliament group, Andor Deli, the Fidesz European Parliament (EP) representative, drew attention to the fact that "2022 will be a record year" and that the largest cohesion payment of all time may take place in the union.

The politician said that Hungary is counting on HUF 2,100 billion in regional development support in its budget for relaunching the economy. The payments of the common agricultural policy are also guaranteed, Hungarian farmers will receive their EU support on time in 2022, he stated.

Andor Deli emphasized that, at the same time, thanks to the economic performance of the years before the coronavirus epidemic and this year, the Hungarian government can start the recovery programs.

Among other things, its budget includes 49.7 billion euros to support the recovery after the coronavirus epidemic and to stimulate economic, social and cohesion investments. The common agricultural policy will receive 53.1 billion euros, the union's maritime, fisheries and aquaculture support fund will have 971.9 million euros. 613.5 million euros will be allocated to increase the competitiveness of the single market and to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including the tourism sector. EUR 839.7 million will support health union support and health needs, EUR 1.2 billion will support the transition to climate neutrality, while EUR 755.5 million will be allocated to support environmental and climate policy measures under the LIFE program. Digital connectivity and the creation of high-performance transport infrastructure are supported by 2.8 billion euros. The EU's Erasmus+ education scholarship will have a budget of 3.4 billion euros, and the cultural and creative sectors will have a budget of 406 million euros.
