In the fourth wave of the pandemic, the number of daily rescues and inquiries related to the coronavirus is increasing.

Gábor Csató, the director general of the National Ambulance Service (OMSZ), said in an interview with the Hungarian Nation: since 2017 - when he was appointed head of the OMSZ - steps have been taken that, in addition to renewing the ambulance service, have also helped prepare for the coronavirus epidemic.

He highlighted, among other things, the renewal of the ambulance fleet, as well as digitalization, through which they can see exactly what a particular ambulance unit is doing, how many cases they have, what kind of protective equipment they have, and where else they can transport patients.

Vaccination would avoid the burden on the ambulance service.

When asked about the current epidemic situation, Gábor Csató emphasized the importance of vaccination. He said that according to their experience, they

those who have acquired full protection thanks to the vaccinations, only rarely need emergency care due to Covid,

while those who come to them in a serious condition usually did not take advantage of the opportunity to be vaccinated. He added: in his opinion, just like the infection, the burden on the ambulance service could be avoided if we paid attention to each other and observed the necessary protective measures.
