According to the opposition, Judit Varga should also resign. And for Orbán, I think, how much more comfortable it would be to run for next year's elections if Márki-Zay ran without an opponent.
As we know, Pál Völner, the deputy minister of the Ministry of Justice, resigned on the morning of December 7, after the chief prosecutor, Péter Polt – you understand, right, Péter Polt! - he requested that his immunity be suspended due to an ongoing investigation due to the crime of official bribery and suspicion of other crimes.
He did not commit a crime, he performed his duties as state secretary and ministerial commissioner honestly and in accordance with the law, however, he accepts the political consequences of the case and resigns from his position as state secretary today, state secretary Pál Völner said in the statement of the politician .
This is all we know for sure, emphasizing that criminal and political responsibility do not mean the same thing. The former cannot be determined in two minutes, and the presumption of innocence belongs to everyone, the law does not differentiate between Fidesz and non-Fidesz politicians, even if this is so often suggested by the opposition. However, political responsibility is a different matter, public opinion, as a court of immediate judgment, does not want adequate, but rather quick answers. It is not enough to be honest, it must also appear so. Of course not always and not for everyone.
Let's see how the opposition potentate thinks about the Völner case!
Márki-Zay, the Prime Minister candidate who never lacks demagoguery, and who seems to be working directly to ensure that he does not accidentally win an election, in his Facebook post, did not play around with the presumption of innocence, because what matters is only who he says it is.
"The political state secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Pál Völner, deputy minister and number one confidant of Judit Varga, regularly collects bribes in paper bags, stuffing millions into the pockets of György Schadl, the president of the Court Executive Faculty, who was taken from the flight to Dubai in handcuffs. Because they are already stealing from the execution. They steal even from the little man, the most fallen. There is no limit, they have to steal because all they can do is steal. And the path of money, as it turned out today, leads all the way to the government."
Anna Donáth, the EP representative of Momentum, went even further when she directly demanded the resignation of Judit Varga, who, in her opinion, should take responsibility. It is interesting that he did not demand the resignation of his fellow representative, Katalin Cseh, who was suspected of embezzling HUF 4.8 billion, and in fact, it was not even an option.
"The minister is not only unable to fulfill his duties and has someone else do the authorization of wiretapping, but he is also unable to supervise his own ministry and subordinates. You must resign immediately.”
Jobbik is also demanding the resignation of Judit Varga, in their usual style:
"The public may rightly be interested in what Justice Minister Judit Varga, who prefers to avoid the cameras, knew about her colleague's transactions. We assume that this was also discussed when, together with Völner, they monitored and listened to independent journalists, businessmen and opposition politicians", they write, and then conclude their announcement by saying that they think "the Orbáns cannot get away with this much", and because of the case, "following his deputy, Varga Judit should also take her coat immediately."
So now that Völner, who has come under suspicion, and who hopefully will find out in a reassuring way whether he committed a crime or not, resigned immediately, accepting political responsibility, is not enough for the opposition, they think that Judit Varga should also resign. And for Orbán, I think, how much more comfortable it would be to run for next year's elections if Márki-Zay ran without an opponent!
But let's also note that Győr mayor Zsolt Borkai and EP representative József Szájer also recently resigned from Fidesz, for "simple" moral reasons, because no criminal liability arose in connection with either of them.
And then let's take a look at the other side, and then list how many opposition politicians who were considered untenable resigned and who took political responsibility:
…
Yes. That's all.
That's the difference. Because it happens that tares get mixed in with the wheat, but it doesn't matter what the farmer does with the tares in the end.
"Why do you look at the mote that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the beam that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother: Let me take the speck out of your eye; yet behold, there is a beam in thine eye? Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then think about taking the speck out of your brother's eye!" (Matthew 7:3-5).
