Celebrating love - The Bethlehem manger exhibition was opened in the Saint Stephen's Basilica

On December 16, in the knight's hall of the St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest, the official opening of the Bethlehem manger exhibition, together with the announcement of the tender results, took place. The Hungarian Handicrafts Foundation organized the exhibition for the 28th time in order to preserve the tradition of making Nativity scenes. Gábor Mohos, assistant bishop of Esztergom-Budapest, parish priest of the basilica, gave a speech at the ceremony.

On December 10, Pope Francis, when he thanked the donors of the Christmas tree and nativity scene in Saint Peter's Square, said: "Let us be embraced by God's closeness, which is compassionate and tender! Let's let the Christmas atmosphere, which is created in our hearts by art, music, songs and traditions, envelope us!" The exhibition in St. Stephen's Basilica also provides an opportunity for this, where you can see the folk, fine and industrial art works of professional and amateur artists, children's groups and school communities related to the Christmas festivities.

The tender and the exhibition were first organized by the Hungarian Handicrafts Foundation in 1994, modeled on the 100 mangers international nativity scene in Rome. For the first time, the exhibition took place in the Szent István Basilica.

We come across countless materials, forms of representation, styles and art forms at the exhibition, which testifies to the variety of thoughts and feelings that the Christmas season evokes in people, but at the same time they all convey the same intimate atmosphere that we desire and strive for during this period.
