In mid-March, the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Center will open its doors to the public in the listed former Postal Palace; during the interior renovation of the building, the specially designed banisters of the staircases, the oak doors decorated with wrought iron handles were restored, and the paternoster operating in the palace was also kept in working order, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) announced on Wednesday.

At the end of the year, the construction of the interior of the Hungarian National Bank Supervisory Center and Pénzmuzeum, i.e. the Pénzmuzeum located in the former Postal Palace on Széll Kálmán tér, which is unique in Europe in terms of both technology and museology, is taking place at an increased pace, the announcement reads.

As they write, with the establishment of the Money Museum, the Hungarian National Bank intends to establish a center for the transfer of historical and practical knowledge related to the use of money, a stronghold of public education on domestic financial topics. In order to realize the ambitious plans pointing to the future, not only was a modern museological concept based on the interactive involvement of visitors necessary, but also the physical space housing the exhibition had to meet special criteria.

The former Postal Palace, a listed building, has undergone a complete renovation in recent years. The contractors developed a separate restoration plan for the restoration of the decorative elements on the facade, as well as for the carpentry, masonry and wrought iron work.

After the monument protection restoration, the construction of the Money Museum's exhibition and experience space, which features various special technological and interior design solutions, is still progressing with great strides. In addition to the installation of state-of-the-art digital museological tools and experience elements, the museum must also meet extremely high security standards, as the MNB's high-value coin collection and a real gold bar are also located here, the summary reads.

According to the announcement, at the beginning of the exhibition, visitors can notice a thinly drawn gold thread placed in a display case, which shows the route of the exhibition as a strip of light on the floor when it leaves the display case. An important element of the Money Museum is the interactive knowledge station and community space called Aranybánya, which can be visited without prior registration. Those interested in the museum also have the opportunity to hold and lift a real gold bar.

More information about the Money Museum, which will open on March 15, 2022, can be found on the museum's website and Facebook page, the announcement states.
