The Máramaros county municipality bought the Teleki castle in Pribékfalv, according to the plans, the spectacular monument building would be renovated and included in the tourist circuit next year. - writes Krónika online.
The castle was the home of former Hungarian Prime Minister Pál Teleki. The Máramaros County Council voted for the municipality to purchase the Teleki Castle in Pribékfalv (Pribilești). The spectacular monument building was acquired by the county administration for a relatively small amount – the price of a three- to four-room apartment in Cluj-Napoca, the purchase price was 210,000 euros. The county head said that next year they will propose the renovation of the castle to the decision-making body, and that the valuable property would be included in the tourist circuit after the restoration, including a museum. The 589 square meter property also includes a 6,727 square meter estate, on which there is also an outbuilding of 296 square meters.
The castle, built in the 19th century, was built and used as a summer residence by the former writer and politician, Hungarian Minister of the Interior, Géza Teleki. The manor house, which originally served as a summer residence, was transformed at the end of the 19th century into its current, historicizing style. It draws attention to the particularly beautiful park of Kálmán Palmer (1894) and the family library, which was compiled from the works of members of the Teleki family. Count Géza Teleki had a beautiful castle built here, with a huge park," reads the description of the property on the website of the Castle in Transylvania. Between 1879 and 1941, the property was owned by Géza Teleki's son, Pál Teleki (1879–1941), and the later Hungarian Prime Minister had it remodeled in 1897, adding a floor to it. The slab of the Neo-Renaissance - Ybl Miklós-level - castle has already been renovated, but its windows are missing, and its plaster is barely intact. However, its stucco-stone window frames and towers are standing and can be completely reconstructed. The estate of the Teleki family was nationalized in 1949, the elegant castle was later the seat of the state agricultural producer cooperative, and it also housed a grain warehouse.
By the way, Pribékfalva in Máramaros County is located 20 kilometers west of Nagybánya, on the banks of the Szamos. Its name was first mentioned in 1405 as Pibylfawa, then in 1424 it was written as Pribelfalwa. The village belonged to the Kővár manor, it was the property of the Drágfi family until 1555, it came to the Teleki family in the 18th century, and it was still in their possession at the beginning of the 20th century. Before the Trianon Peace Treaty, the settlement belonged to the county of Szatmár, the district of Nagysomkút. The village, which later became part of Máramaros county, had 787 inhabitants at the time of the 2011 census, of which only two declared themselves Hungarian.
