Teaching assistants working at the institution are taught about "gender unicorns" and "post-traumatic slavery" in the mandatory woke trainings of an American university. According to the students, they can even be kicked out if they do not take part in the courses, Fox News wrote.
Teaching assistants at Western Carolina University are subject to mandatory racial and gender sensitivity training, during which students are instructed to avoid certain "potentially offensive" expressions.
In another lesson called "Rainbow 101," students were shown a picture of a "gender unicorn" that outlines different "gender identities" and "gender expressions." In addition, the teaching assistants had to watch a video entitled "Human sexuality is complicated".
One of the lecturers, a woman of color, continued to upset the mood in her course. He said that in his former home in North Georgia, he was too afraid to stop his car because he is black. After his statement, he initiated a discussion among the students about the "post-traumatic slave row".
The trainings, which are mandatory for both new and existing teaching assistants, take place at the institution every semester.
"It's extremely upsetting that the woke culture has taken one of the university's most important student leadership positions hostage," one teaching assistant told Fox News.
The American news channel obtained the material of the presentation given at one of the lectures. In it, on one of the slides, students are warned that if they say to their partner that "when I look at you, I see no difference," they are "denying" another person's "racial appearance." It was also explained to them that referring to America as a "melting pot" could be considered offensive and could be interpreted as meaning to "assimilate into the dominant culture" in the United States.
