It is official that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will give his annual review speech on February 12, which also coincides with the official start of the parliamentary election campaign. After a gap of one year, the Prime Minister summarizes Hungary's situation again, as last year it was not possible to hold the event due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Viktor Orbán traditionally touches on important topics such as setting long-term goals and threats to the country, but the prime minister has also presented significant government measures several times in his annual review.
After a gap of one year, on February 12, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will deliver his next year's review speech, confirmed István Hollik, Fidesz's communications director. As is known, the President of the Republic János Áder set the date of the 2022 elections on January 11, according to which citizens with the right to vote can cast their votes on April 3. The campaign officially starts on the fiftieth day before that, i.e. exactly on February 12, so the speech of the prime minister and party leader also marks the beginning of the official parliamentary campaign.
Last year, due to the epidemic situation, the Prime Minister did not hold a traditional annual review, because according to the epidemic rules, it would only have been possible to do so online.
Therefore, last year, instead of the "country assessment", the Prime Minister gave a political situation assessment in the parliament, as the opening of the spring session. Now in the year of the elections, in the last months of the campaign, the Prime Minister's annual assessment of the situation is of particular importance, also because Viktor Orbán usually does not evaluate within the narrower annual framework, his speech has a broader perspective, with a strategic arc.
The prime minister's annual evaluation is traditionally organized by the Hungarian Civil Cooperation Association, they invite Viktor Orbán every year. Incidentally, this year's will be the 23rd annual evaluation since the Prime Minister established the "genre" in 1999. Until 2004, Viktor Orbán gave his speech evaluating the country in Vigado in Pest, then due to the renovation of the building, the Prime Minister waited for his audience in the ELTE building in Lágymány, later in the Körcsarnok, then in the SYMA hall, in the Millenáris, and finally in the Várkert Bazaar, however, the location of this year's evaluation has not yet been decided.
