A Paris court ruled last month in favor of polygamy after approving four adults to raise the same child as equal parents.
Last month, a Paris family court approved a request to allow four adults to raise a minor child as equal parents. The four people are a homosexual and a lesbian couple who decided to mutually help each other in having children. One member of the lesbian couple had a child with one man, the other with the other man.
The plan of the two couples was to have their own child by defying the laws of biology. According to French law, however, a member of the couple who is not biologically related to the child cannot claim parental custody of the child.
Although the four parents had been raising the children together illegally until now, they felt that the time had come to legally accept polygamy "for the sake of the offspring". Therefore, they submitted an application to the family law court so that they could all be legal representatives of both minors. In its judgment of January 7, the court accepted the request, thus recognizing the polygamous marriage.
The lawyer for homosexual couples, Caroline Mécary, expressed in a Twitter post a
he felt his joy over "the first step towards multiparenthood".
In France, it was already common for homosexual couples to be allowed to raise one of their biological children as legal parents. If the right of custody of the children of a divorced couple remains with the parent living in a homosexual relationship later, his partner can apply for the right of custody of the child.
