The Ministry of Finance would like to ensure that the salary of all those involved is already at the beginning of the year higher than the amount of the tax benefit they are entitled to
This year, almost a thousand billion HUF may remain with families from tax benefits. With the amount of the family tax allowance, for example, parents with children "can also pay more", yet many people forget to use it in time - András Tállai informed MTI.
The Ministry of Finance would like to ensure that the salary of all those involved is already at the beginning of the year higher than the amount of the tax benefit they are entitled to, emphasized the State Secretary responsible for parliamentary affairs.
He added that according to the experience of previous years, many people forget about the discount. For example, while in January 2020 only 38,000 people used the tax discount for mothers with four or more children, in December 44,000 did. The ratio is better than the family tax discount: 664,000 people used the discount in January 2020, and 687,000 in June, he said.
Of course, those parents who missed the January payroll deadline will not lose their family discount. Those concerned can claim back the amount owed for the children in their tax return next year at the earliest, said András Tállai.
The easiest way to declare the use is with the tax office's online form-filling application (ONYA), where most of the data required to apply the discount is already included, but those affected can also do this at their employer, he added.
András Tállai also touched on the fact that even the coronavirus crisis could not override the government's family support policy.
In addition to the continuation of the previously introduced measures, the government introduced a number of measures to help families, such as home-building discounts for those with children, the loan moratorium, and a tax refund unique in the history of international taxation, he explained.
The state secretary recalled that the new rules of the family tax allowance were adopted by the legislature immediately after the change of government in 2010. And the results are mostly confirmed by the statistics, according to which, while in 2010 parents only received HUF 12 billion in tax relief, this year the amount left with the families reaches HUF 1,000 billion - underlined András Tállai.
