Masses of families are arriving at the Hungarian border as a result of Russia's attack on Ukraine. Despite the fact that the Ukrainian leadership ordered conscription in the country from Friday (according to the decision, men between the ages of 18 and 60 cannot leave the country), we also see men at Beregsurány, Magyar Nemzet reported on the spot.

On our way to the border crossing between the settlement and Asztély during the day yesterday - as on Thursday evening - we only occasionally heard Ukrainian arguments. We mostly meet Transcarpathian Hungarians. We learn from them that the line for cars on the other side of the border is about five kilometers long, and that five hundred pedestrians are currently waiting. According to one man:

– We were nervous, but despite the conscription, there were no complications with the crossing. Anyone who has a Hungarian passport and has a stamp on it, so he can prove that he has previously entered the territory of Ukraine, will be allowed through without any problems. Those who do not have a stamp, even if they have a Hungarian passport, unfortunately cannot come over. Several people were turned back in front of my eyes by the Ukrainian border guards.

In Transcarpathia, the situation is similar to when the pandemic broke out. People bought everything from shops and pharmacies. You can't get fuel anymore, you can't withdraw money from ATMs, and bakeries don't even bake bread anymore. We heard that soon they will knock, and whoever they find at home will be conscripted. Those who can run away.

As a result of the war situation, in addition to the Hungarian government and charitable organizations, a mass of civilians offer their help to the refugees.

In order to support Transcarpathian Hungarians who are forced to leave their homes, among other things, the Transcarpathian Hungarians !!segítség !! and the Transcarpathian Hungarians Befogadása group were created on social media, where they offer free accommodation and free transport to those in need, but similar initiatives can be read on Help (Ukraine ) also in the Facebook group. The administrators emphasized: every Hungarian is responsible for every Hungarian!
