Tamás József, Hungarian Catholic bishop in Romania, retired auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Gyulafehérvár, and monk Éva Kontra, the first general superior of the Society of Our Lady of Magyars, received the Shield of Faith award this year.
The recognition, awarded annually on the occasion of the Memorial Day for the Victims of Communism, was presented in Budapest on Saturday.
László Kövér, the President of the Parliament, spoke in his welcome speech: the fate of the victims of communism is an admonition for future generations to arm themselves at all times.
Evil, which always turns into inhumanity from the denial of God, never runs out of weapons, but "the one with the stronger weapon never wins, but the one with the faith," he said.
