On average, 40,000 to 60,000 forints more money arrived in the nurses' accounts in February than in the previous month. Thanks to the government, the salaries of the professionals who provide important help to pregnant women and mothers with young children have risen several times in recent years, so now nurses can take home more than three times their salary in 2010. Contrary to the left-wing complaints, the change is noticeable: some people received a HUF 100,000 salary increase.
Hungarian mothers owe a lot to midwives, who accompany families from the beginning of pregnancy to school age, providing them with health and care advice. The nanny service has been officially considered Hungarian for a few years, as this type of care with such a wide range of tasks only works here.
The support of the nurse network is also extremely important for the government, and this appreciation is also reflected in the financial benefits. Bence Rétvári, the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources (Emmi), pointed out the other day that, thanks to the multi-step government wage increase program that has been going on for years, nurses today earn more than three times as much as in 2010.
In his response to the independent parliament member Szél Bernadett, the politician from the ruling party emphasized that in 2019, the salary of custodians was increased by eight percent, then in January 2020 it was increased by 14 percent, and in November by another twenty percent. This year brought them another 21 percent surplus.
Bence Rétvári also mentioned specific examples. According to him, the gross salary of a nanny with a 4-6 year legal relationship is now HUF 422,549, while in 2010 it was only HUF 126,300. Among more experienced colleagues, the increase is similar: a nurse with a 10-12-year legal relationship now earns almost half a million, 493,685 forints, instead of 149,100 forints in 2010.
The state secretary also touched on the fact that, in addition to the basic salary, custodians in the health care service are also entitled to a 12 percent performance bonus and a 15 percent area allowance. - In 2010, the budget spent approximately HUF 18 billion on public guardianship services, mother, child and youth protection, but now this amount has risen to more than HUF 27 billion - he added.
This year's 21 percent is an average, that is, there are differences in the amount of the increase for each individual, depending on who previously had benefits and allowances in addition to the basic salary, and how the employer enforced the new salary supplement rules.
Regarding individual differences, the left-wing press likes to emphasize the few cases where the rate of increase did not reach the promised 21 percent, but the majority of the guardians perceived a significant, positive change. This is confirmed by the survey published this week by the National Association of Hungarian Women Defenders (MAVE). Their research revealed that their colleagues experienced an average gross increase of HUF 40,000 to 60,000.
The nanny service is not the only one receiving more state resources this year. We wrote that at the beginning of the year wages rose in several sectors, with social, cultural and nursery workers earning 20 percent more than last year, teachers and law enforcement workers earning 10 percent, and nurses 21 percent more than last year.
