According to Alžbeta Gajdošová Keruľová, the spokeswoman of the railway station in Kasa, the influx of refugees from Ukraine has reached alarming proportions. The police confirmed their presence in the vicinity of the station. The crisis team is also dealing with the situation.
According to Gajdošová Keruľová, refugees arrive at the station by train and buses, several large groups every day. According to him , hundreds of refugees are arriving at the same time, and most of them are not from Ukraine, but from African and Middle Eastern countries, such as Morocco or Afghanistan. Some of them continue their journey to the west, to the Austrian, German or Hungarian capitals.
Many people stay at the station for hours or even days for various reasons.
"The situation is also serious because the pandemic is still going on and these refugees are arriving without tests, respirators and basic hygiene products," warned the spokesperson.
Ria Feik Achbergerová, the spokesperson of the Slovak State Railways (ŽSR), informed the TASR news agency that the transport company has already requested help from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Transport. According to him, the train station is full of men from third countries. He noted that in the absence of documents, they cannot travel for free, because this discount applies only to Ukrainian citizens.
Due to the movement of persons from third countries, the police also increased their presence around the station.
"Until now, no disturbances or other violations of the law have been reported. According to our information, these persons are preparing to leave Slovakia and will return to their country of origin," said Lenka Ivanová, spokeswoman for the Kassa district police. He added that the crisis team is currently looking for a suitable temporary room for the refugees, which would also act as a contact point and relieve the burden on the railway station.
