The Hungarian public media, which operates according to strict European and Hungarian rules and is overseen by a multi-party board of trustees elected by the Parliament and social organizations, is being hit by more and more frequent left-wing political attacks. On top of all this, they are trying to turn millions of Hungarian citizens against the channels they watch and listen to by spreading untrue statements - says the letter published by the MTVA press department, which was written by Papp Daniel, CEO of MTVA, and Dobos Menyhért, CEO of Duna Médiaszolgáltat Zrt.

The public media will reject slander and all attempts at political influence, as it has done so far. We also refused when the politicians of the left broke into the headquarters with physical force, violating the law, as rioters, when they insulted our colleagues, when they threatened with their existence and existence all those who do their work 24 hours a day out of professional commitment, patriotism and service borders from here and beyond, in all parts of the world. Helping millions to find their way around, reporting on events, border protection, floods, epidemics, war or even what political parties say.

The public media does not serve politics, but the nation, the citizens, and presents every event, statement, aggression, joy or sorrow that happens either in Hungary or in the world.

We present the Russian aggression, no matter how the Sunday protesters try to deny it, we present the situation of the Ukrainians, for whom we are making a charity program throughout the week, the events in Iraq or Afghanistan, the events in Brussels or Berlin, as well as the political positions of the leftists who are currently protesting, or the opinion of the government and governing parties.

We present it even if some left-wing politicians don't want it. We present it even if they would prefer to keep their unpleasant affairs silent, and also what their own candidate or candidates represent, whether it is the utility increase, energy or any other intention. We don't say it, they say it, they represent it. They recommend them to the citizens of Hungary. We do all this because Hungarian citizens have the right to know what politicians say and represent.

They are trying in vain to hide their demonstration planned for Sunday under the guise of freedom of the press, when they are the ones violating the constitutional and legally protected right to free expression. For them, as evidenced by the series of intervention attempts and physical violence, freedom of the press only extends as long as their opinion is published, as long as it serves them.

The Basic Law of Hungary guarantees the right to express opinions and access information for all Hungarian citizens, and we will insist on this and the exercise of editorial freedom guaranteed by the law under all circumstances. We do not want a return to the era of banning, silencing, intimidation or incapacitation.

We are not afraid, we do not give in, no matter how they threaten us!

As we did last time, we will report the current attempt at political pressure to the independent Media Council and the National Election Commission.
