The Hungarian-born American politician stated that he was horrified when he saw the images coming from Ukraine. Millions of Ukrainians - mostly women and children - were forced to leave their homes, their country, he added.

Praising the efforts of the Hungarian government, local authorities, and aid organizations for the refugees, George Pataki said that he also wanted to find out what other ways they could help. He added that, in addition to medical equipment and non-perishable food, the refugees especially need warm clothes and blankets.

He emphasized that as soon as he returns to the United States, he will draw the attention of the American government and the public to the fact that more must be done to support the extraordinary efforts made to care for the refugees.

He believed that we don't know what the future will bring, including whether there will be another wave of refugees, so we have to prepare for that possibility.

George Pataki was also accompanied by the government spokesperson, Alexandra Szentkirályi said: in the past two weeks or so, the Hungarian people have demonstrated a united and enormous fortitude. Everyone, from the government to charitable and aid organizations to civilians, local governments and the people living here, was looking at where they could help, he stressed. The government supports the work of the organizations working at the help points with HUF three billion, he indicated, and then called it a moral duty to help those who are in trouble. Attila Tilki, the Fidesz representative of the region, the Fidesz-KDNP representative candidate for constituency number 4 of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, thanked the government for its help and said that the provision of the refugees is "fluid and smooth".
